Grupo Cox CEO Enrique Riquelme has hinted that “these could be the last elections for Real Madrid” amid reports of impending privatisation. He will confirm his candidacy by Saturday’s deadline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enrique Riquelme, a potential candidate for the Real Madrid presidency, warned that “these could be the last elections for Real Madrid: “Privatisation is reportedly on the horizon. Those of us who oppose this privatisation have an ethical and moral duty to ensure Real Madrid remains in the hands of its members, giving them a greater role,” he stated during his address at the VII International Forum hosted by the economic outlet Expansion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Riquelme acknowledged the tight timeline since the election announcement, admitting that his original plan was “for 2028”. However, he is now focused on “building something exciting” within the “limited time available before Saturday”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“On Thursday, we must notify the Electoral Board, as required by the rules, two days before the deadline. Our teams will submit all necessary documentation, and then we will make our decision on Saturday. We intend to use every moment available to us,” he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“You can\u2019t secure exciting names in 5 days”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Riquelme highlighted the difficulty of assembling “exciting names” within such a short period: “You can\u2019t finalise agreements with a series of exciting players in just five days. I can\u2019t disclose names because it would create unnecessary conflicts\u2014some of these individuals are currently with other teams\u2014but we have an incredibly exciting project, even on the sporting side.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“As members, we have a responsibility. There\u2019s talk of transparency and democracy, and we believe the time has come to present a project, especially if we can deliver something exciting in sporting terms. Over the past few days, we\u2019ve listened to the members and taken their feedback on board. We\u2019ve been preparing a project for many years\u2014one that is both exciting and transformative,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Wednesday, a notification to the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) revealed that Riquelme\u2019s company had appointed board member Nacho Moreno as CEO, with executive responsibilities, following the resignation of Alejandro Fernandez Ruiz, the previous CEO.
