The 48-year-old Portuguese manager was officially unveiled on Tuesday, signing a contract that runs until the end of the 2027\/28 season, with an option to extend the deal by a further year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Silva arrives at the Estadio da Luz to fill the vacancy created by Jose Mourinho, who recently departed to take the helm at Real Madrid. The managerial change follows a challenging campaign in which Benfica finished third in Portuguese Primeira Liga, a result that saw them miss out on qualification for next season&#8217;s Champions League.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The move brings an end to Silva&#8217;s lengthy tenure in English football, where he has coached for the past nine and a half years. His most recent post was at Fulham, a club he led for five seasons and guided back to the Premier League after clinching the Championship title in 2021\/22.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following their return to the top flight, Marco Silva successfully established Fulham as a consistent mid-table force, overseeing several stable campaigns and consolidating the club&#8217;s position in the division. His work earned widespread acclaim for its consistency and competitiveness, particularly when facing opponents with significantly larger budgets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior to his time in England\u2014which also featured stints at Hull City, Watford, and Everton\u2014the manager built his reputation in Portugal. After starting his career at Estoril, he orchestrated a meteoric rise for the club, securing the second-division title and consecutive European qualifications. He subsequently enjoyed a spell at Sporting, where he won the Taca de Portugal, and also claimed the Greek league title during his time with Olympiacos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The arrival of Marco Silva marks the latest change in the Benfica dugout under the presidency of Rui Costa.
