Following the Albiceleste’s World Cup campaign, Lionel Scaloni addressed his future in the dugout but stopped short of confirming his plans beyond his current contract, which expires in December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni remained tight-lipped regarding his future on Tuesday. Addressing the media, the manager also expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support from fans who, on Monday, staged a hero’s welcome for the squad following their 1-0 defeat to Spain in the Mundial final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Yesterday, from the bus, seeing children of seven, eight, or nine years old who were happy despite us not winning was truly marvelous,” Scaloni remarked outside the Argentine Football Association (AFA) training complex in Ezeiza, on the outskirts of Buenos Aires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reflecting on the rapturous reception outside the training base during Monday’s cold and rain-soaked afternoon, the manager was visibly moved: “It was incredible, quite beautiful. It is right to celebrate, even if the defeat is still hard to swallow.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It also serves as a reminder that, even in defeat, we can hold our heads high and find positives,” he added. “You can lose, of course, but the connection this group forged with the people is something very special.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pressed on his future in the dugout, the coach confirmed he intends to see out his current contract, which runs until December, but remained non-committal regarding a potential extension. Scaloni also admitted that he never envisioned achieving such heights during his near eight-year tenure at the helm of the Argentina national team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The most significant thing is how it all unfolded and how the public recognised that the team gave their all. Looking ahead, the priority is Argentina and the national team. Regardless of who is in charge, whether I stay or go, the crucial factor is the unity and the bond that has been built,” he insisted, acknowledging that the top job “is a position anyone would covet”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, Scaloni maintained he was unaware of any potential FIFA disciplinary action concerning post-match incidents in the final against Spain or the banner regarding the Falkland Islands displayed following the semi-final win over England.
