For Jose Mourinho, the final scoreline was secondary to his side’s pre-season conditioning. “We didn’t come here simply to win. We came to train, build up match fitness, and put our tactics to the test”, the manager explained to Real Madrid TV.
The Portuguese coach also stressed the importance of fine-tuning the squad ahead of their Primera Division curtain-raiser against Real Sociedad. “Next week, the serious business starts”, Mourinho noted following the final whistle.
Looking ahead to the rigours of the upcoming campaign, the manager highlighted the necessity of being able to navigate tight contests and grind out results. “We are going to win 1-0, just as we have done today”, the Real Madrid boss affirmed.
