Speaking on ‘Universo Valdano’, Lamine Yamal insisted he deserves to win this year’s Ballon d’Or, asserting that he and Mbappe sit alone at the pinnacle of world football.
The race for the Ballon d’Or is entering its decisive stretch. With just over a month to go before the winner is crowned — and with the 30 nominees already announced —, Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappé stand out as two of the headline contenders.
The Blaugrana prodigy addressed the debate candidly on ‘Universo Valdano’. In a preview released by the ‘Movistar+’ programme, the young Spaniard delivered a bold assessment: “Who would I give it (the Ballon d’Or) to? To the best player in the world. Who are they going to give it to? That’s a very long conversation. I sincerely believe that, as the best in the world, maybe there are two of us, but this year I deserve it. For me, Mbappé and I are the best, everyone who watches the games knows it,” he insisted.
Only days ago, the Real Madrid forward had told French publication ‘L’Équipe’ that no other player had made a stronger case to claim the sport’s ultimate individual honour.
