The LaLiga president released a statement expressing regret over Kylian Mbappe’s remarks, which prompted Chinese companies to sever ties with the Spanish league.
“At LaLiga, we deeply regret the statements made by Kylian Mbappe that have caused upset and offence in China. We understand the harm caused and, on behalf of LaLiga, I want to extend our sincere apologies to the Chinese people,” Tebas posted on his ‘X’ account.
“For many years, we have built a relationship of respect, trust, and cooperation with China, its authorities, its sporting institutions, its broadcasters, and millions of Spanish football fans,” he added.
Tebas went on to stress that LaLiga cannot allow “an individual action to tarnish the relationships or affect the more than 20 clubs across our professional competitions.”
“We are taking every measure within our reach and working directly with our partners and counterparts in China to overcome this situation,” he affirmed.
