Fresh from his Ballon d’Or triumph, Harry Kane returns to action on Wednesday in the German Cup against Magdeburg, but the grand celebration will wait until the weekend.
Aaron Danks, Vincent Kompany’s assistant, addressed the media ahead of the clash and confirmed that Kane will be included in the squad. The striker flew back to Munich on Tuesday to resume training.
During a press conference which featured a Harry Kane ‘Funko Pop’ placed on the table by the media chief, Danks lauded the forward’s crowning moment: “It is great recognition for Bayern Munchen as well, and of course, he deserved it. Knowing him, he will already be thinking about his next goal, about his next match.”
However, Kane’s return does not mean he will immediately present the Ballon d’Or to the home faithful. As Bayern confirmed to the German press, Wednesday’s DFB Pokal fixture will only feature a special reception, rather than the official celebration.
Instead, the club will wait until Saturday to bestow full honours in the marquee fixture: ‘Der Klassiker’. The Bavarians host B. Dortmund in front of a packed-to-the-rafters Allianz Arena.
