Barcelona midfielder Dro Fernandez made his official debut with the Catalans at just 17 years of age, starting in the 2-1 victory over Real Sociedad, something even the young player could not believe and which he spoke about with the media after the match.
Barcelona only had good news to report from their match against Real Sociedad. The Catalans moved to the top of the La Liga table after their victory over the Basque side and were also able to celebrate the debut of another promising youth player, Dro Fernandez, who started in the 2-1 win.
The 17-year-old midfielder played the first half before being replaced at half-time by Dani Olmo and lived up to expectations by helping to create play alongside Pedri and Frenkie de Jong. After the match, the La Masia youth player said he couldn’t believe what he was experiencing and was grateful for the opportunity.
“I’m happy, very happy. It’s incredible. When they told me I’d be starting, I didn’t believe it at first, but then I calmed down,” he told ‘Mundo Deportivo’. “The players and the coach reassured me, they told me to do what I do well in training, and that gave me confidence,” he concluded.
Flick also spoke about Dro Fernandez’s debut after the victory, praising the “talented” Barca player and the need to be able to count on them due to the large number of matches his team will have to play this season.
“He’s a very talented player. He’s a Barça player. It’s great to have these kinds of players to be able to manage minutes. I really like that everyone tries to give their best. This is what we need because we have a lot of games,” he said.
