Atletico Madrid are reportedly in advanced talks to extend Giuliano Simeone’s contract, aiming to reward the Argentine’s growing influence in the squad with improved terms, according to Marca.
The winger, son of Atletico coach Diego Simeone, is increasingly stepping out of his father’s shadow and making a name for himself at the club. Atletico are keen to reflect his importance with a long-term deal.
Sources indicate that negotiations are underway to extend Giuliano’s current contract, which runs until 30 June 2028, with the intention of keeping him at the club until at least 2030.
The extension would also come with a salary adjustment, as his current wages are among the lowest in the squad despite his key role.
Giuliano returned to Atletico in 2024 following loan spells at Real Zaragoza and Deportivo Alaves. His last contract renewal came before these moves, when he had only completed one professional season in Spain’s second tier after leaving the youth academy.
Last season, Giuliano featured heavily for Atletico, playing 3,067 minutes across 50 matches, including 41 starts, and contributing five goals and nine assists.
This season, he has already made an impact in 16 matches, scoring three goals and providing five assists, starting 14 times and coming off the bench only twice.
His rising profile is also reflected at international level, having appeared nine times for Argentina and scoring once. He will miss the upcoming friendly against Angola due to vaccination regulations, but remains a strong candidate for the 2026 World Cup.
The current FIFA break provides the perfect opportunity for Atletico, sporting director Mateu Alemany, and Giuliano’s representatives to advance negotiations in a calmer environment.
