Speaking ahead of France’s upcoming fixtures, the Real Madrid talisman dismissed reports of a medical blunder and insisted he is back to full fitness.
Speculation reached fever pitch on Tuesday following reports from ‘RMC Sport’ and ‘COPE’ suggesting that Kylian Mbappe had undergone an examination on the wrong knee. The alleged medical oversight sparked a media frenzy, with many questioning how such a glaring error could have occurred at the highest level.
Addressing the media on Wednesday while on international duty with France, the forward moved quickly to quash the rumours: “The reports claiming they examined the wrong knee are entirely false. Perhaps I am indirectly to blame; when there is a void in communication, speculation inevitably fills it. We have maintained a transparent dialogue with Real Madrid throughout. We are at a pivotal stage of the season and my priority was helping the team win. When I was sidelined in early January, people viewed me as the club’s only solution, but that simply wasn’t the case,” he explained.
“I have never been one to dwell on regrets. My focus is firmly on the present and the immediate future. I am delighted to report that both my knees feel great, and in many ways, I owe that to my club. I am just happy to be here, fit and healthy,” he added.
When asked about his potential involvement against Brazil, the superstar was unequivocal: “How many minutes will I play tomorrow? I am ready to start. Ultimately, the manager will make that call,” he asserted.
Finally, Mbappe also took the opportunity to laud teammate Dembele: “He brings so much to this side. He is an extraordinary talent and it is fantastic to have him with us. We are convinced he will be a key figure. If he replicates his club form here, we have a great chance of success,” he noted.
“Winning the World Cup as captain? That is an incredibly rare and difficult feat. The more time passes, the more you appreciate the scale of such an achievement. You have to live in the moment and respect the prestige of these tournaments. To win this title would be incredible for me, the squad, the French public, and even for you journalists,” he added with a smile.
