Joan Garcia remains confident about his imminent registration with Barca despite the uncertainty. The goalkeeper explains how he navigated a difficult transfer window, moving from Espanyol to their bitter rivals.
After a challenging few months, during which he faced considerable criticism for his switch of club in Barcelona, Joan Garcia speaks with ‘Mundo Deportivo’ while awaiting his registration to compete in the league opener. The goalkeeper believes his decision was purely driven by sporting ambition and is confident the club will resolve its financial issues to meet the wage bill in time.
When asked about the registration conundrum, the shot-stopper maintained his stance: “I haven’t suffered. Ultimately, when I signed, I was aware of the situation. I was and still am prepared to face it; I’m calm. I’ve been calm throughout this period and remain so. They reassure me that everything will be resolved, and I trust them. Did I have doubts? From a sporting perspective, for my future, I had no doubts. Obviously, coming from Espanyol adds another layer, but purely on sporting grounds, I had none.”
Indeed, that abrupt departure from the ‘Periquitos’ camp significantly shaped his summer: “I understand people’s feelings. I understand the pain they might have felt, the disappointment. I would be lying if I said I hadn’t thought about them, that I hadn’t had some difficult days reflecting on them. But ultimately, it was the decision I had to make for myself, my family, and my future.”
“Many names emerge, many clubs, but it’s not always like that. I did have interest from others, but in the end, there was nothing comparable to what Barca offered me in terms of sport and what they have built, the squad they have. Young, with the potential to win everything. There was nothing else, and in that sense, I had no doubts. They made a significant financial commitment that others likely wouldn’t have. I felt they genuinely wanted me, that it was a decision made with real conviction.”
