A deal between Real Madrid and Olympique Marseille for Dani Ceballos has reportedly stalled, with the player expressing doubts, according to ‘Marca’.
Dani Ceballos’s departure from Real Madrid is on hold.
‘Marca’ reports that the midfielder is reconsidering a move to Olympique Marseille and has requested time to consider if it’s the right step for his career.
While not entirely finalised, the deal was progressing. Real Madrid had negotiated a one-season loan with the French club, including a mandatory €10m purchase clause, after which Ceballos would sign for two more seasons.
However, the player reportedly remained unconvinced throughout discussions, and his doubts have now brought the process to a halt.
Among his concerns, Ceballos is uncertain about playing in Ligue 1. He also believes a better offer may arrive in the coming days, and hopes Real Betis will reignite their interest.
He came close to joining them last season, and now, ‘Diario de Sevilla’ reports that the ‘Verdiblancos’ are considering a move if their pursuit of Antony proves unsuccessful.
The other alternative, of course, is to stay. Real Madrid are not overstaffed in midfield. He extended his contract two summers ago, and last season was the best of his career for the ‘Blancos’, playing 2,054 minutes in 45 matches.
However, Ceballos has reportedly realised that his role may not be as prominent this season as it was under Carlo Ancelotti, making him more determined than ever to leave.
The outcome hinges on Ceballos’s final decision. The transfer window closes next Monday, but Marseille, who still have their own squad issues to resolve, won’t wait forever.
