Xabi Alonso addressed the media on Monday ahead of Real Madrid’s La Liga matchday six clash with Levante. The manager previewed the game against ‘Los Granotas’, with his side arriving as league leaders after a perfect start.
Following their 2-0 victory over Espanyol, La Liga leaders Real Madrid face another league test this Tuesday against Levante. Ahead of the match, manager Xabi Alonso spoke to the press to discuss what awaits his team at the Ciutat de Valencia.
“Every away game is tough. Levante have played well in many matches and have a great, very competitive manager. We’ll need to show quality, rhythm and concentration to get the win,” began Alonso, who answered a range of questions.
Dembele, a Favourite for the Ballon d’Or?
“The Ballon d’Or? We’ll see what happens. It’s not my concern. I’m not on the jury. We’ll see who wins the award after the gala.”
Perfect Start
“We’ve won nothing yet. We must be ambitious and hungry. We need to win many games and be consistent in our play to go far.”
Vinicius Junior’s Frustration at Being Substituted
“I’ve been a player, and being taken off is never nice. I like to be close to the players and talk to them. It’s a minor issue, and I won’t make a big deal out of it.”
Carreras’ Arrival and Performance
“I was optimistic about him because I’d been following him for a while, but his concentration and competitiveness have surprised me. He has a lot of quality and is very complete. His instant impact has been remarkable.”
Will Camavinga and Bellingham Start, or Will They Be Rested for the Derby?
“They can start if they’re in the squad. They’re in better condition now after more training sessions.”
Favourite Front Three
“That’s a very difficult question to answer. I’d be in trouble. I’m happy with everyone, although we can do better in the final third. We need to improve, but we’re building a good foundation.”
Game Plan Against a Deep-Lying Team
“The other day, we struggled to create more chances despite having a lot of possession. We always try to correct things to improve. Levante might sit back, but they also have players to press, with the forwards in great form.”
What Does Vinicius Need to Do to Get More Minutes?
“I’m happy with what he’s doing. There’s a long season ahead, and he needs to feel comfortable and continue to be important.”
