Alvaro Morata and Ruben Loftus-Cheek were subbed off early on Wednesday in Milan’s Champions League match against Red Star Belgrade. The midfielder injured his right adductor while the Spanish striker has a hamstring injury.

Bad news for AC Milan ahead of their league clash against Genoa on Sunday as Alvaro Morata and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have both suffered injuries. The pair were subbed off early in last night’s 2-1 win over Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League, which put the ‘Rossoneri’ on course to qualify for the knockout phase.

The former Chelsea midfielder was replaced by Chukwueze after 28 minutes of play with an injured right adductor, but another blow quickly followed as Morata was also forced off with an injury less than a minute later. The Spaniard made way for another ex-Blues star, Tammy Abraham, due to a problem with his left hamstring.

Although recovery timelines are yet to be confirmed by the club, it will be difficult to see the duo feature in the game against Patrick Viera’s Genoa at the San Siro. After losing Christian Pulisic for the rest of the year with a muscle tear, Milan see themselves without another blow in the attacking department.

Morata, who has been no stranger to injuries this season, has started 13 of his 16 matches for the ‘Rossoneri’ so far, finding the back of the net on 5 occasions. Meanwhile, Loftus-Cheek has seen fewer minutes from kick-off compared to his teammate upfront. The Englishman has struggled to shine this season, with only 6 starts from 13 matches in the league under new manager Paulo Fonseca.
