Roma forward Paulo Dybala said he was open to a move to La Liga after spending almost all of his professional career in Italy, as he admitted that he tunes in to watch the games in the Spanish top flight.
Paulo Dybala admitted that he has “always wanted to play in La Liga” as he was asked whether he would be open to a future move to the Spanish top flight after spending his entire professional career in Italy – minus one year at Argentine side Instituto in 2011/12.
The 31-year-old made headlines in Serie after a breakout season with Palermo, earning him a transfer to Italian giants Juventus in 2015. Dybala spent seven years in Turin, scoring 115 goals and assisting 47 times from 293 appearances with the ‘Bianconeri’
However, continuous injury woes saw him switch sides and join Roma, beating out Inter in the race to sign him as a free agent in 2022. While fitness concerns have not stopped for ‘La Joya’, but he has nonetheless been able to aid the ‘Giallorossi’ with his undeniable quality.
Having scored 21 goals and provided 12 assists in 42 games for the Italian capital club, many believe Dybala may still have something to offer in other top leagues – like La Liga. Asked on a possible move to Spain, the Roma winger confessed that he is a big fan of the league.
He said: “La Liga is great, I watch it a lot on TV. It’s a very beautiful and competitive league. This year it’s very exciting and hard-fought between Real Madrid, Barca, and Atletico. I’ve always wanted to play there. But I’ve been in Italy for many years now. You never know what could happen in the future.”
Although Dybala’s contract with Roma was automatically renewed last January until June 2026, it still includes a 12 million euros release clause for any club outside Serie A. The figure is certainly one that many top teams could afford if they wished to sign the playmaker.
