Cesar Azpilicueta and Angel Correa are set to leave Atletico Madrid at the end of the season, with the Argentine forward already announcing his departure following Sunday’s 4-1 win over Real Betis.

Sunday’s 4-1 win over Real Betis is set to be Cesar Azpilicueta and Angel Correa’s last match at the Metropolitano for Atletico Madrid. The duo are heading towards exits this summer, with the Argentine forward confirming it following the match.

“Today I played my last home game wearing this shirt that I love so much,” Correa wrote on Instagram. “It wasn’t just another day, it was a mix of memories, emotions, and gratitude. Thank you to the club, my teammates, and this incredible fanbase that always made me feel like one of their own.”

“I take with me every applause, every ovation, and every moment in my heart. I will always be grateful for everything I experienced at Atleti. Thank you for everything,” he concluded. According to Fabrizio Romano, the 30-year-old is poised to start a new chapter with Mexican side Tigres.

Meanwhile, an official announcement is yet to arrive for Azpilicueta’s imminent departure. The veteran Spaniard is set to leave upon the expiration of his contract, which runs until June 30 2025, though no information has arisen regarding his possible new destination.

Romano reports that although he is looking to continue playing at the top level, Azpilicueta has reportedly ruled out a move to the Premier League out of respect for Chelsea. He spent 11 years with the Blues before leaving to join the Madrid outfit in the summer of 2023.

Having bid farewell to their fans in their last home match, the duo will sign off next week when the Rojiblancos visit Girona for the La Liga final on May 25. Third-placed Atletico have nothing at stake heading into the game, with Champions League qualification already sealed.
