Kieran McKenna confirmed on Friday that Liam Delap is looking to leave Ipswich this summer, with the English striker said to have gathered interest from Manchester United and Chelsea, among other Premier League clubs.
Liam Delap has gathered a lot of attention from Premier League clubs following his standout season with Ipswich Town. The 22-year-old has scored 12 goals from 39 appearances for the already-relegated side, and is now looking to stay in the top flight with a move this summer.
“Liam’s looking at his options for next year, which I think he is entitled to do and we support him with that,” Ipswich head coach Kieran McKenna confirmed during a press conference on Friday. “I think we have given him permission to do that this week. It’s a very important decision for his future.”
As a result, Sunday’s Premier League finale against West Ham could be Delap’s final game for the Tractor Boys. The Englishman joined the club last summer from Manchester City, but is said to have gathered interest from Manchester United and Chelsea, among other Premier League clubs.
“I think part of his week has been having some of those conversations. It looks more likely than not that he will move on this summer, and he has interest from pretty much every club in the league, and I don’t think there are many clubs in the world who wouldn’t want to have him,” McKenna added.
However, the manager did not rule out a possible stay for Delap. “Nothing is sorted, nothing is done or completed or even very, very, very close, so that process will take its course,” he said. “We will be proud of the part that we have had in terms of Liam’s development and his contribution this season.
“If he stays with us, we will be delighted, and if he moves on this summer, it will be a positive sign for the club to have developed and sold a player at that sort of level. He has given everything to the cause, and he is entitled to make a decision on what he thinks is best for the future.”
