Isco acknowledged Chelsea’s superiority in the second half after losing in the Conference final in a match they started winning. However, the Spanish midfielder felt that the result was too emphatic.

Isco, one of the main stars in the Betis dressing room, spoke out after the defeat in the Conference League final against Chelsea. The Betis captain was self-critical and mentioned the fans.

“A very tough result after what we saw in the first half. Football is unforgiving. We played a good first half where they hardly had any chances. In the second half they rolled over us. We are hurt. We had it close and we didn’t know how to take advantage of the lead. This is something that has penalised us all season. In a European final, mistakes are very penalising,” he said.

Isco himself admitted that they defended too deep: “I think we took refuge in the scoreboard a little bit. We got too deep. They’re a team with a lot of quality, a lot of power… it’s a result that’s too big”.

“We’re very sorry we couldn’t give them the title. We’ll keep trying. What these fans give us is incredible at all levels. They are fuel for us to keep trying next year. We owe them one and I’m sure we’ll give it to them in the future,” he concluded about the fans.
