Fermin Lopez spoke to ‘Sport’ in what was his return to a call-up with the Spanish national team. The midfielder said that Lamine Yamal deserves to win the Ballon d’Or, but that no pressure should be put on him because “it will come to him because he is very good”.
Time of training camp with the national teams is synonymous of interviews of the different players. Fermin Lopez took advantage of his return and spoke to ‘Sport’ about his return and several current issues of both ‘la Roja’ and Barcelona.
“I’m very happy to be back, it’s anyone’s dream to be here and play in the Nations League. I hope I can help the team if they need it,” he began.
On the decision not to play the next European Championship: “I’ve been almost non-stop for two years and you have to listen to your body. I was excited at the beginning, but in the end we have agreed on everything. I spoke with Santi Denia and he understood perfectly. I am grateful for the trust he gave me, I think we made the right decision.
His beginnings: “I was very young and I had to sharpen up more than my teammates. It has helped me a lot, thanks to this stage I am living these moments”.
On competition at Barcelona: “At Barca there will always be competition, it is the best club in the world and there will be the best. I have tried to get as much playing time as possible, the coach has given me confidence and I have tried everything”.
Fermin did not comment on the possible arrival of Joan Garcia: “I’m not going to get into these things. There is too much commotion around him, I don’t know what offers he will have, he will know his own things and will decide calmly”.
“He does not forgive anyone. Everyone has worked very hard, I think we have done everything possible and we have completed a great season,” he said about Hansi Flick.
Fermin also spoke about Lamine Yamal as the possible Ballon d’Or winner: “For me, yes, I see how he trains, his day to day, how he plays, he is incredible, although we should not put too much pressure on him with the Ballon d’Or. It will come to him because he is very good”.
