On Tuesday, Real Madrid completed their second training session under Xabi Alonso’s leadership with the notable return of Thibaut Courtois. The Belgian goalkeeper trained with the group, bringing his comeback closer.
Courtois took another step in his recovery from sacroiliitis, which had sidelined him from recent international fixtures, joining the full squad for Tuesday’s session.
After participating only in the initial part of Monday’s training, the goalkeeper kept pace with his teammates this time, working alongside Luis Llopis, Real Madrid’s goalkeeping coach.
Meanwhile, Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, Brahim Diaz, David Alaba and Fede Valverde followed a similar plan to the previous day, training only partially with the group before continuing their individual recovery programmes.
Having overcome serious knee injuries, Carvajal and Militao are gradually reintegrating into group sessions, hopeful of featuring at the Club World Cup.
Alaba, meanwhile, continues to train with a bandage on his left knee and faces a tougher challenge as he nears the final phase of recovery from a meniscus tear sustained in late April.
Injured players Ferland Mendy, Antonio Rudiger, Endrick and Eduardo Camavinga completed their respective rehabilitation programmes away from the group and remain unavailable for the Club World Cup.
Thus, Alonso’s group included Courtois, Lucas Vazquez, Raul Asencio, Fran Garcia, Dani Ceballos and Rodrygo Goes as part of the first team. According to the club’s website, the session began with physical work on the pitch.
The players then split into rondos and undertook demanding drills to practise ball circulation, pressing, possession and midfield combinations. The session concluded with several series of crosses and shots on goal.
