Renato Gaucho, in the press conference before Fluminense-Chelsea, made it very clear that his team wants to continue to make its name bigger in this Club World Cup. The Brazilian coach assured that they are in this tournament “to make history”.
Fluminense coach Renato Gaucho, who is the revelation of the Club World Cup, said on Monday that his team is not satisfied with having reached the semi-finals against Chelsea and said he wants to continue causing surprises in the tournament.
“Fluminense are playing a beautiful Club World Cup and it is a privilege to be coaching this team and this squad. We are here to make history,” he told a news conference at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford (New Jersey, USA), which will host this Tuesday’s semi-final from 3pm (19:00 GMT).
“From the first day we said we had to believe in our work and in our squad while respecting our opponents. We have faced powerful opponents with bigger budgets, but football is decided on the pitch. So we have to respect the opponent but have that attitude,” he added.
The coach said he is very happy with his players because “they are giving” everything on the pitch. “But we’re not just here to take part: we’re here to win,” he said.
As for their opponents for a place in the final, Gaucho was quick to praise Chelsea. “They have a very powerful attack and their whole squad is wonderful, but specifically in their attacking ability they have very quick forwards and wingers and they have a midfield that controls the game very well,” he said.
“We will try to make the most of the opportunities we can find. I have a lot of confidence in my squad,” he added.
With Thiago Silva as a focal point and who will also be reunited against Chelsea with one of his former teams, Fluminense, who have Jhon Arias and German Cano in attack, will have to contend with the suspensions of Matheus Martinelli and Juan Pablo Freytes.
