PSG face Chelsea in the Club World Cup final. Another English rival for the Parisians this season, where they have already knocked out Liverpool, Aston Villa and Arsenal in the Champions League, plus a win over Manchester City in the League Phase. In August, Tottenham await in the European Super Cup.
Among the many things PSG are doing well this season, English teams are one of them. The newly crowned Champions League winners will face Chelsea in the final of the Club World Cup and will be looking for what would be their fifth title in the same season, the club’s record, and on the verge of a sextuple that would be historic.
The Blues will be the fifth different English team Luis Enrique’s side will face this season. In addition, in the final of the European Super Cup awaits Tottenham, which would be the sixth. And the numbers leave the French side in a very good place.
With Sunday’s final, Paris Saint-Germain will have played nine games against English teams (five wins and three defeats to date), and more importantly, they have knocked out three of them in the Champions League play-offs (Liverpool, Aston Villa and Arsenal). To this must be added the victory against Manchester City in the League Phase, as well as the defeat against the Gunners in their opener.
PSG have never faced English teams on so many occasions before. The last time they played more games against English sides, they only played four in the same season (2015-16, 2018-19 and 2020-21).
Paris Saint-Germain are having a superb season, playing eye-catching, effective football and making everyone fall in love with the way they play. What’s more, they are backing it up with titles and records. For example, as well as having in the palm of his hand the possibility of becoming the third team in history to win a sextuple (only Barcelona and Bayern Munich have done it), the team is just three goals away from equalling its best scoring campaign in history (171, in 2017-18). It’s been a dream year in Paris.
