AC Milan have announced through their official channels the signing of Luka Modric, who has signed with the ‘Rossoneri’ for one season plus an optional season. The 39-year-old Croatian faces a new challenge in his career after a 13-season spell at Real Madrid.
New times for Modric. The Croatian, a player who has been through a thousand battles, is facing a new stage in the world of football after confirming his signing for Milan. The player from Zadar has put an end to his time at Real Madrid to join the ‘Rossoneri’ project, with which he is linked until 2026 with one more optional year (2027).
The Lombardy side have not disclosed the player’s salary, but the Italian press has reported that the midfielder will receive around 3.5 million euros plus bonus per season. A contract that is not insignificant for Luka, who lands in the Italian team to have a place in Massimiliano Allegri’s starting eleven.
What started out as a fantasy has finally become a reality. Milan’s new sporting director Igli Tare had him on his shortlist from the start and has been able to convince a player who had been left without a place at Madrid. The Croatian was the last remaining member of the eternal trio of the ‘Merengues’ midfield that he formed with Kroos and Casemiro.
His last appearance wearing a white shirt was at the Club World Cup, where he achieved several records: the Madrid player with the most matches and the most victories in the tournament. It was the end of a wonderful cycle with 28 titles, the most successful in the club’s history. Now he finds himself with an incredible opportunity in the team he admired since he was a child. A fan of his compatriot Zvonimir Boba, who played for the ‘Rossoneri’ between 1992 and 2001.
“Boban was an idol for me and my father. When I was little, my father bought me a Milan kit and I dreamed of being a Milan player, but things were different. When you come to Madrid it’s difficult to think about going anywhere else,” the Zadar native told ‘La Gazzetta dello Sport’ in an interview in June 2020.
