Joan Garcia’s departure to Barcelona has caused perplexity within Espanyol. Angel Fortuno, who wants to earn his place in the first team, is clear that he would never have done it.
Joan Garcia has been one of the big names of the summer. Espanyol knew he was going to leave the team, but what they didn’t expect was that he would go to their biggest rivals, Barcelona, a decision that hasn’t gone down well. Angel Fortuno, the goalkeeper who is destined to replace him, is clear that he would never have done it.
“I’ve been a ‘Perico’ since I was a child. We are here and we will always be here. I’d rather go to Jupiter than play for Barca,” said the Espanyol goalkeeper, who will be in the first team in the 2025-26 season.
Fortuno appeared on journalist Javier de Haro’s Twitch channel in the middle of pre-season with Manolo Gonzalez’s team. Now, he has to fight for a starting place with Marko Dmitrovic.
“He is a top person. He doesn’t get nervous and helps both Pol and me”, he said of his new teammate, with whom he will have to earn his minutes during the season.
He also acknowledged that he could have gone out on loan, but preferred to stay in the squad: “The best thing was to be here and learn from what there is, like Diego Lopez or Fernando Pacheco”.
