Following their goals against Real Sociedad, Barcelona have now scored in 44 consecutive matches, equalling their best-ever scoring run. Hansi Flick’s side can now set a new club record against PSG.
Sitting top of La Liga after their 2-1 victory over Real Sociedad, Barcelona head into their midweek Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain with confidence sky-high. The current European champions, weakened by injuries, visit Montjuic to face a ‘Blaugrana’ side eager to make a statement against a direct rival.
Beyond their fantastic form this season (seven wins and a draw in eight competitive matches), the Catalan giants head into the European clash with the chance to make history outright. Thanks to their goals against the Basque side last Sunday, Hansi Flick’s charges have now gone 44 matches in a row (in all competitions) finding the net, equalling the club’s best-ever record, which dates back to the 1943-44 season.
The last time the current ‘Azulgrana’ team failed to score was on 15th December 2024, in a home match that ended in a surprise 0-1 defeat to Leganes (who were relegated last season) after a goal from Sergio Gonzalez in the opening minutes.
34 victories and an average of 2.84 goals per match
Since then, Aristides Maillol’s team have become an absolutely unstoppable machine when it comes to breaching the opposition’s goal, whether in La Liga (28 matches), Copa del Rey (6), Spanish Super Cup (2) or the Champions League (8), and now, against PSG, they can raise the club’s bar in this regard.
In that run of matches, in which the record stands at 34 wins, six draws and just four defeats, the ‘Azulgrana’ side have scored a whopping 125 goals, which leaves a spectacular average of 2.84 goals per match. Almost three goals in every game, which clearly demonstrates the tremendous attacking potential of the ‘Cules’.
Throughout those matches, Barca have scored one goal in 11 matches (25%), two goals in eight matches (18.18%), at least three goals in 10 matches (22.73%), four goals in nine matches (20.46%), five goals up to four times (9.09%) and six (2.27%) and seven goals (2.27%) once.
Atletico and Valencia, favourite victims
In terms of opponents, Atletico Madrid, with four, have suffered the most at the hands of the ‘Azulgrana’ storm, with Real Madrid, Benfica and Valencia following in their wake with three matches. However, in terms of total goals conceded, the ‘Che’ side take the crown with 18 in three matches (an average of six per game).
On an individual level, Robert Lewandowski, with 23 goals, is the top scorer in these 44 consecutive matches in which Barca have found the net, with Raphinha (20), Ferran Torres (18) and Lamine Yamal (14) also surpassing ten goals.
With all this in mind, the possibility of reaching 45 matches on Wednesday and continuing to add to the tally is a further incentive for a Barcelona side that, however, still has a long way to go if they want to beat the national record in this sense, which is held by Real Madrid under Zinedine Zidane, who strung together 73 consecutive matches scoring between April 2016 and September 2017.
