
Arda Guler, who was named MOTM after Real Madrid’s narrow victory over Juventus in the Champions League, said he feels important under Xabi Alonso and thanked the Spaniard for his faith in him.
Real Madrid, who sit fifth in the Champions League group stage, are one of five teams to have won all three of their games so far, alongside Arsenal, PSG, Bayern and Inter, after the ‘Merengues’ claimed a hard-fought victory over Juventus at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Apart from the lethal Kylian Mbappe, one of the players who is dazzling in the Champions League for ‘Los Blancos’ is Arda Guler, who once again gave a masterclass in midfield to lead his team’s play and secure victory.
The 20-year-old Turkish player, who was named MVP in his 12th appearance for Real Madrid this season so far, said after the victory over the ‘Vecchia Signora’ that he feels like an important part of the team thanks to Xabi Alonso.
“I feel an important part of the team thanks to Xabi Alonso, who’s shown real faith in me. I try and give my very best. He asks me to control the tempo and to be creative, I played well today,” he told reporters.
When asked whether he prefers to play in a more attacking or creative position, the Turkish international said that he does not really mind. “I can do either. If he wants me to score and assist, I can be a number 10, but I can play at number 8 as well, I don’t mind,” he said.
In addition, Guler also said that he has a great relationship with Kylian Mbappe off the pitch, which has been reflected in the five assists he has given him so far this season.. “It’s fantastic, as you can see. It’s the same off the pitch too, he’s a great guy,” he concluded.
