Barcelona confirmed on Wednesday that UEFA has authorised the club to host their remaining Champions League fixtures at the Camp Nou, formalising the full return of the Cules to their home ground across all competitions. The first match back will be against Eintracht Frankfurt on 9 December
The Blaugranas will therefore avoid a return to Montjuic — at least for now. Just a day after announcing that their league match against Athletic Club would be moved to the Camp Nou, Barcelona have now received approval to play European fixtures there as well.
UEFA has granted an exception to its usual requirement that matches be played at the same venue throughout a phase of the competition. The governing body has accepted the club’s request to switch grounds mid-phase following an agreement between both parties.
“FC Barcelona announce that the sixth match of the Champions League league phase, on Tuesday 9 December at 21:00, against Eintracht Frankfurt, will be played at the Spotify Camp Nou,” the statement begins.
According to the club, the decision follows the granting of the first occupancy licence for Phase 1B of the stadium works, which increases capacity and includes the entire Lateral stand, in addition to the licence already in place for Phase 1A — covering the Tribuna and Gol Sur.
UEFA has accepted the request after confirming that all required conditions have been met.
Barcelona added that information on ticket sales will be released in the coming days. The club says it is “delighted to compete once again at its stadium” as the redevelopment of the new Spotify Camp Nou continues to progress.
