After his four-goal haul against Olympiacos, Kylian Mbappe spoke to ‘Movistar Champions League’ to defend his team’s recent form. The Frenchman insisted that ‘people talk a lot’, but that it’s to be expected when you play for a club like Real Madrid.
Frenchman Kylian Mbappe, who scored all four goals in Real Madrid’s 4-3 victory over Olympiacos on matchday five of the Champions League’s new league phase, defended his team’s performance this season after a recent three-match winless run. He urged the squad to “protect each other” and “protect the manager and all the staff”.
“I think the team is in good shape, although there are things we need to improve,” he told ‘Movistar Champions League’. “There’s a lot of talk on the outside, but that’s normal when you play for a club like Real Madrid. We have to protect ourselves, protect the manager and all the staff. We need to stick together because we’ll be fighting for everything this season.”
“It was crucial to return to winning ways,” he stated. “We went three matches without a victory, which is a lot for a team like us. It was important to win today to keep pursuing our objective of finishing in the top eight, which is the priority in this initial phase of the Champions League.”
Mbappe also analysed the 4-3 victory in Greece against Olympiacos: “We started very poorly, giving the ball away too often. Then we controlled the game, scored plenty of goals and created chances, but the second half was a bit more end-to-end,” he assessed.
“We need to review the match. We had spells where we were in control, creating chances and scoring goals. We have to build on that,” he commented.
