Kylian Mbappe, the Real Madrid star, stole the show with a brace against Athletic. Thibaut Courtois, another key figure for the ‘Merengues’, praised his teammate and expressed his delight at playing alongside the Frenchman.
Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois reflected on his team’s current form after their 3-0 victory over Athletic ended a run of three consecutive draws in the league.
“We needed to stop talking and start acting; that’s what we did. These are different matches. Athletic play with a high line, and we had more space. Elche and Girona sat back to defend, and we need to improve against deep-lying defences,” the Belgian said in the mixed zone.
“Out of pride as players, we need to give more on the pitch. In the first half against Girona, we didn’t give enough, and we need to realise that if you don’t play with 100% intensity, any team can put you in danger. We can’t always expect to come back,” he added.
Courtois also lauded his teammate Mbappe, who scored twice at San Mames, bringing his tally to 25 goals in 20 matches this season.
“Playing with Kylian is better than playing against him. No one has his explosive pace. Sometimes I think, ‘I’m so lucky to play with Mbappe,'” he declared.
