FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid discover their referees for the clashes against Eintracht Frankfurt and PSV Eindhoven. Italy’s Davide Massa will officiate the ‘Cules’ against the Germans, while Englishman Michael Oliver will take charge of the ‘Colchoneros’ in Eindhoven.
Italian referee Davide Massa has been appointed to officiate Tuesday’s FC Barcelona-Eintracht clash, in the Matchday 6 of the Champions League League Phase, while Englishman Michael Oliver will referee the PSV Eindhoven-Atletico de Madrid match.
Massa, born in Imperia 44 years ago and an international referee since 2014, will be assisted on the lines by Filippo Meli and Stefano Alassio, with Simone Sozza as the fourth official. Marco di Bello and Aleandro di Paolo will be on VAR duty. The Italian will be officiating FC Barcelona for the first time, while he has previously taken charge of the German side against Arsenal and Tottenham, both in the Europa League, matches they lost 3-0 and 1-0 respectively.
However, he has officiated several FC Barcelona players. For example, he refereed the Spanish national team’s friendly at the Johan Cruyff Arena against the Netherlands (1-1), in which Eric Garcia, Dani Olmo and Ferran Torres all featured.
Oliver, 40 years old and an international referee since 2012, will be assisted in Eindhoven by compatriots Stuart Burt and James Mainwaring, with Andrew Madley as the fourth official, and Michael Salisbury and Stuart Attwell on VAR duty.
The referee from Ashington has refereed Atletico Madrid on two occasions, and they lost both times. They fell in Munich against Bayern, in October 2020, by 4-0, and in Leverkusen against Bayer, in September 2022, by 2-0.
Furthermore, Valencian Juan Martinez Munuera will take charge of Kairat Almaty-Olympiacos, with Raul Cabanero and Inigo Prieto as his assistants, Javier Alberola as the fourth official and Carlos del Cerro and Javier Iglesias on VAR duty.
Alejandro Hernandez Hernandez from the Canary Islands will referee Atalanta-Chelsea, with Jose Naranjo and Diego Sanchez as assistant referees, Alejandro Muniz as fourth official, and Cesar Soto and Guillermo Cuadra on VAR.
