Sergio Francisco’s dismissal fuels speculation around the Real Sociedad dugout. Thiago Motta, former Genoa and Juventus coach, is a leading candidate for the position.
Real Sociedad endured a challenging start to the season, leaving Sergio Francisco’s position precarious for several weeks. While the coach initially managed to navigate the difficult situation, a recent string of poor results reignited a sense of instability, ultimately costing him his job. For now, the ‘txuri-urdin’ side has appointed B-team coach Ansotegi to see out the year.
However, the club is already working to select the manager who will take charge of the project from the new year. Kike Marin, a journalist from ‘El Confidencial’, reports that Italian Thiago Motta is the club’s preferred candidate to take the helm.
After two successful campaigns at Bologna, where he guided the team into Europe, Juventus backed Motta for an ambitious project that laid strong foundations early in the season. However, too many draws in the final stretch meant his tenure only lasted that initial campaign.
Since then, Motta has remained a free agent and could now embark on his first Spanish managerial adventure with Real Sociedad. As a player, he previously featured for Barcelona and Atletico de Madrid.
