Hansi Flick has declared that Barcelona will be the final club of his managerial career as he prepares his side for a crucial Champions League showdown against Newcastle.
Speaking ahead of the second leg at Camp Nou, the German coach underlined the magnitude of the occasion following the 1-1 draw in the first leg. Barcelona must win to secure their place in the quarter-finals.
Flick expects a demanding contest against a physically intense opponent. “It will be a very difficult match,” he said. “They are aggressive, strong in transitions and pressed us well in the first leg. We will need to be at our best.”
Beyond the immediate challenge, Flick also addressed growing speculation over his future after Joan Laporta confirmed plans to extend his contract.
While he avoided going into detail, the coach made his long-term intentions clear. “I am very happy here. What I feel at this club is special. I don’t see myself anywhere else. This will be my last club, my final challenge,” he admitted.
Flick also praised the form of key players such as Lamine Yamal, highlighting the youngster’s ability to make a difference on the biggest stage. He reiterated that the Champions League remains the ultimate objective, although he stressed the need for continuous improvement if Barcelona are to go all the way.
The German emphasised the importance of identity and collective spirit, values he believes define Barcelona. “It’s not just about winning, but how you win,” he explained, echoing the club’s traditional philosophy.
With the tie finely balanced, Flick is confident his side has the quality and mentality required to deliver when it matters most.
