Nico Paz has informed Real Madrid that he does not intend to return to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, opting instead to continue his development at Como following the Italian club’s historic qualification for the Champions League.
The Argentine playmaker has emerged as one of Serie A’s breakout stars under Cesc Fabregas and is determined to remain at the heart of the ambitious project being built on the shores of Lake Como.
Despite holding a buy-back option, Real Madrid have been made aware of the player’s desire to stay in Italy for at least another season. Paz believes his progression is best served by continuing in an environment where he enjoys a leading role and regular minutes.
The prospect of playing Champions League football with Como, coupled with the trust shown in him by Fabregas, has been crucial in shaping his decision.
Since arriving in Italy, the former Madrid academy graduate has become one of the team’s standout performers, helping guide the club to an extraordinary campaign that ended with qualification for Europe’s premier club competition.
Real Madrid still retain control over the player’s future through a buy-back clause valid until 30 June. However, the Spanish giants are not expected to activate that option this summer.
Should they decide to bring him back in 2027, Madrid would still have the opportunity to do so for a reported fee of €10 million.
For now, though, Nico Paz has made his position clear: his immediate future lies at Como, where he hopes to establish himself as one of the faces of the club’s first-ever Champions League adventure.
