The German goalkeeper is set to leave Saint George’s Park for Amsterdam to finalise a season-long loan switch to the Eredivisie giants.
Marc-Andre Ter Stegen is poised to depart FC Barcelona’s pre-season base at Saint George’s Park. The goalkeeper is expected to fly to Amsterdam imminently to finalise a loan move to Ajax. According to reports from Spanish outlet AS, an agreement between the two clubs has been effectively in place for several days, though fiscal complications regarding the operation had temporarily stalled the move.
The same source suggests the impasse stemmed from liabilities concerning double taxation between Spain and the Netherlands.
While the German international maintained that the clubs should shoulder the tax burden, Ajax were reportedly reluctant to absorb the extra cost. Ultimately, Barcelona brokered a solution to break the deadlock and allow negotiations to reach a conclusion.
Despite the advanced nature of the talks, Hansi Flick opted to include Ter Stegen in the initial travelling party to England. However, with the final hurdles now cleared, the veteran keeper is preparing to head to Ajax, where he is slated to spend the duration of the 2026/27 campaign.
