Ferran Torres, who converted Barcelona’s opening goal against Racing de Santander, spoke to ‘Movistar+’ and revealed that Real Madrid’s recent cup exit made his side “far more focused.”
FC Barcelona forward Ferran Torres played down his goal in the 2-0 victory over Racing, insisting that qualification for the quarter-finals was what really mattered.
“We knew Racing possessed considerable quality, and they certainly showcased it,” he stated. “Nevertheless, the most satisfying outcome is securing our progression.”
Having emerged as the team’s top scorer, Ferran Torres revealed he had always recognised this would be a “crucial” season for him, expressing his belief that he can cement a regular starting spot in the side. “I have immense self-belief,” he declared.
Commenting on Real Madrid’s surprising elimination in Albacete, Ferran Torres admitted it actually “spurred us on significantly and ensured we didn’t take anything for granted” against Racing.
The forward from Valencia affirmed that FC Barcelona’s last defeat, a high-stakes clash against Chelsea on 25 November, had served as a “reset” for the squad and brought them “much closer together.”
Finally, Ferran Torres expressed his “pride” in captaining the team for the first time, hailing the occasion as “special.”
