Barcelona manager Hansi Flick expressed his strong displeasure with Gil Manzano’s refereeing after his side’s defeat to Real Sociedad at Anoeta.
FC Barcelona coach Hansi Flick expressed his visible anger with the referee’s performance after his side’s 2-1 defeat at Anoeta, declaring that “everyone knows what happened.”
The German coach lamented his team’s loss in a match where they created “chances to win.” He added: “We must continue on this path; we cannot change our playing style. Now, we need to focus on what to improve.”
Despite this, much of the press conference centred on Jesus Gil Manzano’s refereeing. The official controversially disallowed three goals and did not awarded a possible penalty in favour of the Catalan giants, with some decisions appearing extremely marginal. “I do not agree with some decisions, but that’s all there is to it,” Flick indicated.
The German coach highlighted one specific incident, a marginal offside call against Lamine, which he described as “identical” to Robert Lewandowski’s disallowed offside goal last season, also at Anoeta.
Following this defeat, Real Madrid now sit just one point behind FC Barcelona in La Liga title race. Real Sociedad scored their 2-1 winner just a minute after Barca’s equaliser – a play Flick insisted his side “must improve.”
