Following Atletico Madrid’s 2-0 triumph over Barcelona, Juan Musso voiced his frustration over the scrutiny surrounding a controversial incident involving Marc Pubill. The Argentine goalkeeper dismissed the penalty appeals as ‘insignificant’, insisting the moment had no bearing on the result.
The primary flashpoint of the Barca-Atletico clash involved a contentious incident between Juan Musso and Marc Pubill. The Blaugrana were adamant they should have been awarded a penalty, claiming the Argentine goalkeeper had already returned the ball to play before his defender handled it inside the area. The referee, however, remained unmoved.
Speaking in the mixed zone, the ‘Rojiblanco’ goalkeeper was grilled on the matter but initially sought to shift the focus. “Let’s talk about the match in general,” he urged. “They played a great game, and it’s always a pleasure to compete at this level. This rivalry is a huge motivator for us, but we cannot dwell on a passage of play where the ball was clearly not in play.”
Musso eventually tackled the controversy head-on, offering a blunt assessment of the situation. “It changes nothing. If Pubill had been trying to gain an advantage under pressure, you could perhaps interpret it differently. But honestly lads, let’s stop messing around—it was of no significance whatsoever,” he remarked.
The Argentine custodian concluded by reiterating that the debate was over “absolutely nothing,” firmly backing the official’s stance that the ball was dead at the time of the contact. “The referee makes the call, not us,” he asserted.
