Pedri Gonzalez, on target in Spain’s win over Peru, confessed to feeling ‘a bit more breathless’ during the warm-up at 2,135 metres above sea level—a rare atmospheric challenge for ‘La Roja’.
Spain overcame Peru in Puebla, a clash played at a challenging 2,135 metres above sea level. The high-altitude environment presented an unfamiliar test for ‘La Roja’, causing some early discomfort during the opening exchanges.
That was certainly the experience for Pedri, who found the net on the night. Speaking to ‘RTVE’, he admitted: “You could definitely feel the altitude during the warm-up. Initially, I felt a bit more breathless than usual.”
Pedri also reflected on his strike, Spain’s second of the game: “With Ferran operating on his natural flank, he provides excellent delivery and a clean strike. I knew if I made the run, he would put it on a plate for me. It was just a case of getting a foot on it.”
“We have been labelled as favourites and, of course, we don’t shy away from that; we know we are a top-quality side, but you have to prove it on the pitch,” Pedri added in the mixed zone.
Mikel Oyarzabal, who netted for the sixth consecutive match, also spoke to ‘RTVE’: “I am delighted to be here and to have the opportunity to play every game. As the years pass and you deal with injuries, you learn to value every match and every detail more. I am happy to contribute in this way and am eager to keep this run going.”
