Barcelona vice-president Rafa Yuste has hit back at Miguel Angel Gil Marin over his accusations regarding the Catalan club’s conduct in the Julian Alvarez saga.
Speaking to ‘Movistar+’ following the Champions League draw, Yuste branded Gil Marin’s remarks a “lack of respect and manners”, after the Atletico chief claimed he was repulsed by FC Barcelona’s alleged “falsehoods, lack of ethics, transparency and professionalism” in their pursuit of Julian Alvarez.
“What surprises me is that, knowing him as I do, he could make such statements, which I feel are not merely out of place, but a blatant display of bad manners and disrespect. Our president, sporting director, sporting department and the entire club have set an example of hard work, professionalism, and doing things properly for many years,” Yuste fired back.
“These comments cross a red line that, coming specifically from Miguel Angel Gil, I simply do not understand, nor do I share them in the slightest, and they outrage me,” he added forcefully.
Finally, he underlined that the Catalan side respect “our rivals, Atletico Madrid as an institution, and every player in the world. If a player wants to join the club, of course we are thrilled,” he concluded.
