Fermin Lopez, scorer of Barca’s 2-0 win over Espanyol, played down the importance of the appearance of the sprinklers in the middle of the title celebrations. However, the Huelva player defended his team’s right to celebrate the title. “We didn’t disrespect anyone,” he said.
Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez played down the fact that Espanyol had activated the sprinklers at the RCDE Stadium to prevent Barca players from celebrating the LaLiga title, although he pointed out that celebrating the championship ‘is not disrespectful to anyone’.
Two seasons ago, the Azulgranas were unable to celebrate La Liga at this same venue because dozens of radical supporters of the Blue and Whites jumped onto the pitch to prevent them from doing so.
And Fermin said he understood that the sprinklers were turned on today “because of what happened the other time”, but defended the team’s right to celebrate the title: “We are celebrating our league and it just so happens that it was here, but we didn’t disrespect anyone and we went inside as quickly as possible.”
The Andalusian playmaker, scorer of the second goal in his team’s 2-0 derby win, was jubilant, because for him it was “a dream” to win titles with Barca, “and what better than a league title.”
“We dreamed about this from the beginning. We worked hard to get here and I think we deserved it,” he told the microphones of ‘Movistar La Liga’ before praising the figure of the coach, Hansi Flick.
“We did a great job, he guided us all the way and now it’s time to celebrate,” Fermín concluded.
