The player of the Spanish national team Pedri attended the press conference before the semifinal of the Nations League against France. The Tenerife native admitted that Bayern wanted him in 2020, but proved his “unconditional love” for Barca.
Spain is already focused on the semifinal against France. ‘La Roja’ is defending the Nations League title and Pedri, who missed that very final due to injury, is confident of winning the title.
“Yes, I think so. I couldn’t be at the previous one we won, but I watched it from home. It would be the icing on the cake, it has been a very good season individually and collectively,” began the Tenerife native.
The question about the Ballon d’Or came on the scene and Pedri, who is among the favourites, made it very clear that he does not lose sleep over it: “I am not a player who looks much at individual awards. Since Rodri won the Ballon d’Or it’s different, they didn’t look at the midfield players. But why not?”
“We are facing a semi-final and the most important thing is the team. I’m proud to be there in some of those conversations. I’ll save my vote for when it’s all over,” said the player from Tegueste.
On the other hand, Pedri spoke very clearly about the little margin there is to rest because of the schedule. “It’s really crazy. There are so many games, but our motivation is to play a final,” he said.
“Rodri’s absence is very important for us. I do feel confident, the best way to end a very good season is to return to the pitch where it was not easy for me, but I was happy with the team’s victory,” said the Tenerife native on whether he feels more of a leader in ‘la Roja’ without the Manchester City player.
In addition, Pedri admitted that Bayern tried to sign him in 2020: “Yes, there was a moment when Bayern was interested, but my love for Barca is unconditional. It is the club of my dreams.
Finally, the midfielder did not dare to choose between Luis Enrique and De la Fuente. “They are different. One gambled on me in the youth teams and in the senior team (De la Fuente) and Luis Enrique is a spectacular coach who backed me. It’s like choosing between mom and dad. I can’t choose,” he concluded.
