Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has revealed how he tried to convince Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong to join his Old Trafford project.
Erik ten Hag has admitted that signing Frenkie de Jong was a priority during his time at Manchester United, having previously worked with the midfielder at Ajax.
“Of course, I did everything I could. I arranged meetings with him, which Richard and John also attended, to convince him to come,” Ten Hag told ‘The Athletic’, referring to former executives Richard Arnold and John Murtough.
The Dutchman explained that De Jong suited the attacking, possession-based football he wanted to implement at Old Trafford. “He could have been very important in building the team, not just for that season but for the future. But we couldn’t get it done,” he admitted.
