La Liga announced on Tuesday the punishment handed to a minor identified as responsible for racist abuse directed at Lamine Yamal during the Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu. The young offender is banned from entering football stadiums for one year and must complete 30 hours of community service.
The sanction follows the incident on 26 October, when the teenager shouted racist insults at the Barcelona winger during the La Liga match at the Bernabeu.
La Liga requested that the individual be prohibited from attending any official football competitions for 12 months, a decision confirmed on Tuesday following an investigation by the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office.
The minor has also issued a written apology to Yamal, who scored Barcelona’s third goal in their 4-0 victory.
According to the report by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), some Real Madrid supporters were heard directing insults not only at Yamal but also at his teammates Raphinha and Alex Balde.
“With this action, La Liga reiterates its firm commitment to combating racism and all forms of hate in football,” the organisation said in a statement.
