Ferland Mendy has chosen to have surgery once more on his right rectus femoris tendon injury, with the same specialist who treated Militao expected to carry out the procedure, reports ‘Marca’.
Ferland Mendy is set for surgery, as reported by ‘Marca’. The Real Madrid left-back, in consultation with the club’s medical team, has decided to place his recovery in the hands of a specialist after sustaining the injury last weekend against Espanyol.
In Cornella, the Frenchman suffered a tear to the rectus femoris tendon in his right leg—an injury strikingly similar to the one he endured a year ago in the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona. On that occasion, Dr Leyes operated, but this time, Mendy will travel outside Spain in search of a solution, according to the same source.
‘Marca’ further reports that Ferland Mendy is considering a trip to Finland to be operated on by Dr Lasse Lempainen, the same surgeon who recently treated Eder Militao for a torn biceps femoris tendon in his left leg. Initial estimates indicate the Frenchman faces at least five months on the sidelines.
The last eighteen months have been particularly challenging for Mendy. Since the start of 2025, injuries have sidelined him for 49 of Real Madrid’s 94 matches. Of the 45 games for which he was available and named in the squad, he featured in just 22, and in four of those he was forced off through injury.
With a contract running until 2028, Ferland Mendy’s future at Real Madrid remains in doubt. For now, he will play no further part this season and is not expected to return before October at the earliest.
