Tottenham and Netherlands playmaker Xavi Simons faces a long road to recovery after sustaining a ruptured ACL, ending his season and World Cup dreams.
Midfield maestro Xavi Simons, a pivotal figure for both Tottenham Hotspur and the Netherlands, is set for a significant period out of action after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during last weekend’s fixture. The 23-year-old is unlikely to return to competitive action until late 2026 or potentially early 2027, according to reports from journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Taking to social media, Simons confirmed the gravity of the injury and expressed his devastation at the lengthy lay-off, notably wiping his profile of all previous posts.
“I am heartbroken. None of this makes sense. All I wanted was to fight for my team, and now that chance has been taken away, along with the opportunity to play in the World Cup. Representing my country will not be possible. It will take time to accept this,” the player wrote.
The midfielder underlined his resolve to support his teammates while embarking on the arduous journey back to full fitness:
“My season has ended abruptly and I am trying to process everything. I will continue to be the best teammate I can be. I will move forward with faith, strength, and resilience, counting the days until I can play again. I ask for everyone’s patience,” he requested.
The news represents a crushing blow for Tottenham Hotspur and the Netherlands, with both sides losing one of their most prodigious talents at a critical juncture of the season and on the road to the World Cup.
