Chicago Fire manager Gregg Berhalter, speaking at a press conference, categorically confirmed the club’s intention to sign Robert Lewandowski, who will become a free agent in just over a month.
Lewandowski has now closed the chapter on his time at Barcelona following his final match at Mestalla on Saturday. The question now is what the Polish striker’s future holds for next season.
One of the rumours that has gained momentum in recent weeks is his move to the MLS, specifically interest from Chicago Fire. Well, their manager, Gregg Berhalter, has spoken clearly about the American side’s intentions.
“I can speak frankly because he is no longer a Barcelona player, or won’t be next week, and he is someone we want to sign,” he said.
“Firstly, I don’t think he doesn’t have other offers. I find that hard to believe. I’m sure a player of his calibre must have offers. As for our communication, we’ve spoken a lot, both with him and with his entourage,” he confirmed.
Finally, he highlighted what Lewandowski would bring to the team: “A player of such a high standard can only strengthen our team and increase its potential. We already have a very strong attacking line-up, and his arrival can only make us even stronger.”
