Rui Costa reportedly moves to secure the Portuguese coach’s future, as speculation swirls over Mourinho’s next move.
Benfica’s board has reportedly put forward a contract extension for Jose Mourinho, according to the Portuguese sports press, amid fresh links between the coach and Real Madrid.
The Lisbon club’s president, Rui Costa, has already made a formal renewal offer to the Portuguese tactician, as reported by Record, and is now awaiting Mourinho’s response, according to Sport.
Mourinho took charge of Benfica in September under a contract running until the end of next season. However, the deal includes a clause allowing both parties to reassess their commitment shortly after the season concludes.
The Portuguese manager has once again become a hot topic, with growing speculation about a potential return to Real Madrid, the club where he previously clinched the La Liga title, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup.
Mourinho has made it clear, however, that he will only address his future once the Portuguese league season concludes, leaving the decision hanging in the balance for the days ahead.
